3 Days Left in Fangshan Camp

Today in Germany we had a very funny moment. We were talking about emotions and we had the students talk about events in their lives and how they felt about them. Nick was sharing what he wrote with the class and he said that when he was born he felt very sad. We asked him why because all of the other students said they were very happy. Then he said that he was sad because “have you ever seen a baby come out going ‘hahahaha!’” It caused a lot of laughs and Jen and I thought it was hilarious! We are having a great time getting to know our class and class time can be very fun when the class is behaving. We are looking forward to spending these last few days with the kids.

English Camp is going great! Greece has won 1 (soccer) game and tied 2 games. The kids still say “Teacher, Teacher,” instead of Miss Courtney. None of the kids in my class what a high five was, so I taught all of them. Now whenever they see me they give me a high five and say “Go Greece.” In English Corner I showed a picture of the White House and then a picture of my house and one kid shouted “your house is better than where Obama lives!” I think the food is amazing, especially the baozi. Well, only 10 more days till I’m back in Michigan.

Uruguay

It’s hard to believe camp is halfway over. The children are opening up more and it is interesting to see all their different personalities We have a very active class. They especially enjoy the nightly soccer games. Working with the beginners can be challenging yet also very rewarding. They are full of surprises, like when our littlest girl sang “You Are My Sunshine” all by herself in front of the whole camp. It has been an amazing experience so far and I can’t wait to see what else is in store.


English Corner

In English Corner today we discussed 3 questions. 1 - If you had $1,000,000 what would you do with it. 2 - If you had $1,000,000, and HAD to give it away, what would you do with it? 3 - Is it better to give or receive? As an answer to the third question, Billy (the only student in the class who answered the FIRST question saying she would give the money to those in need) quoted a Chinese proverb, which when translated means “if you give someone else a rose, your hand still smells good.”
