Hello from China!
It's early Monday morning, and we are starting our second week of English Camp at the Fang Shan Kindergarten. Everyone seems to be healthy and in good spirits.
We just enjoyed a nice relaxing week-end. Our staff went on an over-night retreat Saturday and Sunday up in the mountains near Beijing. We stayed in a small retreat center located on a river. It was much cooler up there, and we enjoyed hiking, rafting on bamboo rafts, bungee jumping(not all of us), worship, playing games, and just relaxing. We got to eat some deep-fried weeds, deep fried pumkin blossoms, barbequed lamb on a stick, Chicken (head and feet included) and lots of other great food. We even stopped for dinner at McDonalds Sunday night!
Last Friday, two of our guys (Bob C., and Dennis H.) spent the afternoong lecturing at a local University on world economics. They led a three-hour lecture/discussion session with post-graduate students. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and it sounds like they did a great job!
On Sunday afternoon, two of our young women, (Rachel G., and Anna M.) left to spend a few days with the family of one of the teachers who teaches in a school that has graciously allowed our kids from the orphanage to attend. They will be well-taken care of, and will have opportunities to develop relationships with both adults and kids in this family. They will also have the privilege of seeing a part of Chinese culture that most of the people on our team will not get to see.
Today, two more of our young women (Alyssa S. and Kelsey H.) will leave to travel with two families together for the next three days. They seem very excited about the opportunity! This helps them develop new relationships, but it also helps our organization because these are key people who help us get things done here in the Fang Shan area.
That's a short summary of some of the things that are going on here right now. Keep us in your thoughts!

ReplyDeleteHey! It sounds like you are getting to experience a whole lot of different kinds of food and go to a lot of different places. That is GREAT!
Todd was talking to your dad and I and asked if it would be possible for you to pick him a small souvenier while you are there. We told him that we would ask if you could. It you would not have to be much. :)
We think about you and what you might be doing all of the time. I know that I wake up most nights between 1 and 2 in the morning and wonder what you are doing. It usually takes me a couple of hours to go back to sleep. I use that time thinking of you, the team, and the campers.
Enjoy the time you have left there and make the most of it! We are thinking of you and will see you in Atlanta.
We love you very much,
Dad and Mom
